I decided it is time to leave my hermit status behind. It has been to long since I have had any type of social calendar.
I needed to venture out into the world again. When I first move to the ATL I was miss party queen. I noticed I was more adventurous then I had ever been in my life. I didn’t have any friends only my family. They had children so they were not trying to run the streets like I did. I started going out alone. I was young and the adventure was fun. Every club I went to guys would ask me where my friends were. My line that I used in response, “I don’t need a babysitter”. A new city and a new me staying in the house was not an option.
After a while the club life got old. I have no idea if it was age or the whole scene itself. Usually when my friend asks me to go out, it was a clubish type of environment. There has to be more to life then a club. Atlanta is full of great things to do. I needed to tap into my Mojo that I had when I first moved to this city.
A friend and I decided to take advantage of what this city has to offer. We each get a month to find things to do in Atlanta that is not a club. February is my month to make the plans. I decided on a restaurant Agave. A guy took me on a date there recently and I swear the food was so good I wanted to lick the plate. Then my next outing is Roller Derby. Who knew Atlanta had Roller Derby. After watching the movie Whip It I knew that was something I wanted to do.
Within a week of the epiphany of a social life something else sprang up. I was talking to a friend and they suggested I join a Meetup group. Online they actually have groups that attended social events together. He was telling me about one I would be interested in. So I joined and went to an event they had on Friday. They were talking a Salsa class at the Fernbank Museum. I bought a new dress and was on my way. I had a great time. The people perfect strangers but so sociable it seemed as if I knew them forever. That is what made the event even better. We did the Salsa class and I and a new acquaintance fell all over ourselves trying to do the moves. It was a great change from my usual Friday night. I plan to go to more of their events and look into others. My social calendar is about to take off. I will keep you posted on my progress.
